March Madness, countdown to Spring!

Image
Good evening room 10 families, We have a short, but jam packed month coming up!  This week we will begin to review division and its relationship to multiplication.  Then we will move in to developing for multiplying and dividing double digit numbers.  Our writing will shift from narrative story writing to persuasive writing and we will continue working on developing our editing skills. In Social Studies we are learning about Alberta's rich historical past and we are excited to begin building our own Fur Trapper Fort.  Health will continue to focus on improving our understanding of the impacts of bullying and we are excited to present our short stick puppet plays around the school to help others learn to be kind and inclusive. Field study permission forms will be coming home for our trip to the Leighton Centre on March 18th. Thank you to those families that have gone above and beyond to fulfill their volunteer commitments so far this year. We only require two more volunteer

Pink Shirt Day

Good afternoon room 10 families, PINK SHIRT DAY - it was an emotional and impactful day. We watched a video called "I Hate Kate" to learn about the impacts of bullying, you can watch it on YouTube. From this video we realized that we do not yet have the words to properly express our emotions so we spent time building out emotional vocabulary. The kids wanted to share it with you. 😊 We learned that the damage done, the scars left on our hearts, cannot be erased once the bullying has ended, but we can stop them from forming by standing up for victims, by spreading kindness, and by being a friend. Now that we know what bullying is, we're beginning to learn about why someone bullies and how we can effectively stand up to it to make our world a kinder place for everyone to be. Please speak to your children about their feelings about today's learning. Remind them that you are their best advocate and that they can always share their concerns with you - we somet

Getting ready for Pink Shirt Day

Hello Room 10 Families, As your children have likely told you, we've been focusing on bully awareness and prevention.  I am sad to report that we have a significant problem with bullying in our classroom.  In order to correct this problem we are learning what bullying is, what we can do to prevent it, and how we can all be kind humans who can make a difference. We have spent some time learning what empathy is and what it looks like to be empathetic.  We are in the process of creating a project that helps us see that it's what's inside that matters most so we can find ways to connect with peers in positive and meaningful ways. Today we read a story called "My Secret Bully". This book can evoke emotions and feelings when kids start to relate to the main characters experiences and feelings.  Please take a moment to sit down with your children and ask them what they thought about the story. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me v

Busy week! 😊

Good evening everyone! It's been a busy week! Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers, without you we would not be able to experience all the wonderful learning opportunities the field studies offer.  I have plenty of pictures to share with everyone. I have a reminder from the office to login to your MyCBE accounts to pay for any outstanding field study fees as soon as possible please.   We have to pay for trips at the time of the trip or just before, so late payments can be burdensome on the school. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I am attaching the list of remaining field study volunteer opportunities. We have a few changes from the list I sent out earlier in the year, some trips are lottery based and we were not chosen.  The Mayor's Expo is set to take place over June 2, 3, and 4th and we will confirm which day we will be attending closer the the event. Please take a look at your schedule and email me which dates you would like your name added to (kmbe

Glenbow Museum Field Study

Good afternoon! Tomorrow we are excited to learn about the Fur Traders and the Indigenous Peoples. We leave the school at 8:30 and will return for regular dismissal at 2:35. Please remember to send your child with a healthy lunch and a drink.  We will not have our backpacks on this trip so it will be best to have a water bottle or juice box that fits in their lunch bags.     There are water fountains available. Stay tuned for pictures! Mrs. B.

January has zoomed by!

Good afternoon everyone, Today everyone is bringing home their No Excuse spelling.  I have attached the list we used for them to self-check and to practice with.  Make sure they are not using capitals unless the word requires one. If you find they are mastering the list quickly I have attached a more comprehensive robust list to extend their learning. https://www.bvusd.org/site/handlers/filedownload.ashx?moduleinstanceid=1319&dataid=1838&FileName=No%20Excuse%20Words%20Spelling%20Words.pdf The Social Studies project that was sent home was due today. Those students who are building their cubes have the cube templates and their printed work if it was complete so they can glue it to the template.  Please support your child in completing their project if they are still working on adding information to their documents.  Remember to bring back all textbooks and green duo-tangs on Monday. We are working on multiplication - practice math facts!  ðŸ˜€ Tomorrow is a PD day, so en

Homework!!! And report cards 😉

Happy Monday everyone! We have report cards coming home today, everyone is excited to see how they did so don't be surprised if they're opened before they get home.  We do ask them to wait, but ... Please return the envelopes to help the school save on supplies. I am sending home the kids Social Studies duo-tang. They have a check list for their project that they are working on in Google Docs.  We have has a substantial amount of time to research and gather the information and to enter it in our docs. I cannot dedicate any more class time to complete this work.  I would appreciate it if you could speak to your children about using their class time wisely. - Students who are building the cube will be given the cube templates and the printed information to cut and paste tomorrow.  All projects are due by Thursday. Field Study forms for our next trip are also coming home today. We need 4 volunteers for our trip to the Glenbow Museum on February 5th. **Edit - sorry this was
